Tallulah-Palooza Friday

Tallulah Mae insisted on having a bindi, too...

What I Did Today

First I went to a really fun Bollywood dance class at the Y, complete with stick-on bindi...
Then I had DELISH frozen yogurt from Yogurtland (biodegradable pink spoon!). The pink yogurt at left is taro...OMG, so yum. There's also pistachio, "tart," and chocolate for good measure. Not diet food, but so good.

A good day! (I also took a nap, but there were no photos to document it--difficult to hold a camera while you are asleep. Tallulah Mae has proven to be an unreliable photographer.)

An Enjoyable Way to Spend an Afternoon

Isn't this quilt top pretty?

I quite enjoy pressing linens. The stack at top is destined for Etsy--they were washed, hung on the line to dry, then ironed. A good afternoon's work, indeed!

Don't bother to hit "Read More"--there IS no more, but stupid Blogger won't allow me to delete the jump break I accidentally inserted! ARGH! I only hope it's not something turned on forever...insert "Huge Sigh."

Signs That Make You Go Hmmm...

(Not Taco Bell, silly!) Why is there a restaurant called "Charkbait"? I do not know.
And WHY is there a Korean restaurant called "Jiggle Jiggle"? I REALLY do not know. Hmmm...

Please excuse the spots up there--my beloved little camera has something inside the lens making those spots. I love it, but I'm thinking it's time for a new one.

Fun with VW Bugs

Somebody REALLY likes Tweety Bird...not only does it say "Tweety!" in rhinestones on the side, and not only is Tweety on the wheels, but look closely--the headlights have been made to look like Tweety's eyes. (I took this while stopped in traffic so couldn't get a better shot.) Wow.

New Feature: SOP

I'm starting a new feature here at Foziewisp: I've dubbed it Summer of Productivity, or SOP. You see, I have a LOT of projects--some large, some small--that I never seem to accomplish, so I thought that if I put it out here on the blog, I might hold myself more accountable. Public shaming might work in my favor.

Here's how it will work: every Sunday I will pick a project then report back the next Sunday to see if any progress was made. Progress is the name of the game--not necessarily finishing something from start to finish, but at least doing SOMETHING...a journey of a thousand steps begins with one step etc. etc. There may be a few weeks where travel interferes, so I will cut myself some slack that week.

Because I prefer blog posts with pix, I will endeavor to illustrate a before and after (thus using up my ever-dwindling Picasa space, but oh well). If you'd like to join me and play along, feel free!

Week one: clearing off my desk and the area around it. I'm wading in...wish me luck! That rooster up there looks very concerned...

P.S. A few people wondered about the watering cans visible behind Tallulah Mae in Friday's post. Those are just a small collection of galvanized watering cans; I pick them up at sales whenever I find one for a reasonable price. We're a collecting bunch over here at Chez Foziewisp!

SKWERL!!!!!!

 Um...
OK...

This skwerlio was perched on this trashcan for quite some time, just like this--and it was barking at the top of its lungs at Tallulah Mae and Stanley, who were at least 500 feet away. Weirdo skwerlio...

Earlier in the day, in my own neighborhood (that's a park above--you might have guessed that or wondered why we might have multiple concrete picnic tables in our backyard), I saw a squirrel leap from a telephone wire about 5 or 6 feet across to a tree...amazing. The better to raid the bird feeder...

Yum Times Two

Further evidence of just how lucky I am to have my very own Master Chef: above we have polenta with red peppers, zucchini, and poached eggs.
And this is a leek and cheese strata.

YUM times infinity!

BTW, for those who are wondering what washi tape is, it is decorative tape that comes in lots of lovely patterns and colors. The word "washi" means "paper," strictly speaking; there are more nuances, of course, but when one says "washi," it's paper one is talking about. Not only do I covet and hoard washi tape, but I have a whole box full of WASHI! I'll have to share with the blogosphere one of these days...

Kawaii

Please look at the loveliness I received from the kind Miss D., who carried these all the way back from Japan. Beautiful wrapping, of course, and look at those sweet candies. And the box? It has not one, not three, but FIVE rolls of washi tape!
I have several rolls that I bought in Japan a few years ago, and I hoard it. As I noted in my thank-you to the sweet person who gifted me with these, I'm rather like Gollum in Lord of the Rings: "My preciousssss wasssssshi tape...my preciousssss."

Spotty Doggy

Awww...what's black and white and pink all over? This sweet dog! She was quite the kissy face, despite her oh-so-serious mien here.

Happy Father's Day

Happy Father's Day, everyone.

I miss you, my Daddy...you did look mighty fine in a hat (this actually was taken around the time of the current season of Mad Men...funny...).

Yes, I Am an Eight-Year-Old

I'm sure I'm not the only one who finds this funny {snicker, snicker}. Not sure what was scratched/rubbed out...I think "Building"? I need a sign that says "Saggy Buttles..."

Um...

Sometimes, it really isn't too difficult to understand why someone hasn't purchased an item at a thrift store...the price sticker on her forehead is an especially nice touch!

It Never Grows Old...

No matter how many times I snap photos of bees, I just never get tired of looking at them...I hope you like to look at them, too!

Wisteria Pendants

After the wisteria blooms, it makes these lovely velvety pods. I have to stroke them every time I walk by! (I'm weird, I know!)

Tallulah-Palooza Friday

"Harumph," said Tallulah Mae.

"Kiss kiss smooch smooch," say I.

Ramona Grasslands: Odds and Ends

 BIG pooper scooper!
A den with a stick portico.
These trees burned several years ago.
 Big sky.
Acorns!

The End.

Ramona Grasslands: Creatures

We were assured that there had been no bobcat sightings in the preserve recently--um, really? This is a bobcat print!
Dung beetles, busily rolling this piece of poop down the trail (funny!).
 Mr. Grasshopper.
And if you zoom in: SKWERL!!!!!!!

There were lots of birds--and bird geeks (always said with affection) with giant lenses on their cameras--along the trail, but I never got a shot of any of them.

Hiking in the Grasslands: Vistas

In April, we went on a hike with the Nature Conservancy; we're members of the Legacy Society (meaning we are remembering them in our estate plan). This hike was at the Ramona Grasslands Preserve. It's lovely--90 percent of this type of ecosystem has been destroyed or built on, so this is area preserves important native plant and wildlife species. In addition to native grasses, there are areas with Southern California chaparral and live oak trees.

The picture above makes me feel like a pioneer crossing the prairie!
