Mystery Globes

 
Check these out...what ARE they? They are hanging from a neighbors' pergola, and they're cool, and they look like eggplants. But I don't think they are...anyone have any ideas? Do tell!

    Looks like a MAEKAWA-JIRO NON-ASTRINGENT PERSIMMON. But I can't see the leaf part at the top. Hm? Swipe one and cut it open!
