Clayton's

 

Somehow it took us having out-of-the-country guest to visit this cool diner on Coronado: Clayton's! Apparently the restaurant has been here since 1938, changing hands (and names) in 1952. Alas, the cool neon sign is gone, but many of the original elements remain, including the excellent horseshoe counter. Love it!

These appear to both be male juvenile Western bluebirds (one is obviously a bit older than the other). I've never really seen them in the backyard before, so this makes me quite happy!

The oriole gang was going nuts yesterday evening, chasing and clacking...and hanging upside down on the feeder. Their time here is drawing to a close; they will soon be migrating.

Special Guest Appearance

 

...from Mr. Towhee. These birds rarely land in the fountain and are very very quick and skittish; most often I see them kicking up mulch to dislodge insects. You usually see them more than hear them.
