Tallulah-Palooza Friday

Here's our doggy yogini Tallulah demonstrating a lazy gal's version of Bakasana (Crow pose). No unpleasant balancing for our girl; it's much easier to do this asana lying on the couch. Let's take a closer look, shall we?

Ommmm. . .

Luverly Lemon

An exemplary specimen, no? It actually looks kinda fake . . . and no, it's really not growing on a geranium plant (see foliage and flower at left).

Springy

It's 70 degrees here, at 5:15 . . . not complaining, but 70-plus degrees in February? Odd . . .

Cool Japanese Things (Aren't They All?)

Isn't this too sweet? It's a ring made entirely from recycled kimono fabric. So elegant.

It's sitting atop this piece of fabric (not sure exactly what its purpose is; it is quite wide and much bigger than, say, a tea towel), which is illustrating aspects of making tea. Both of these cool objects were given to me by my cool friend Robin.

This? I bought this issue of Cotton Time for myself as I was (ahem) Christmas shopping (for myself? No, no, for other people, really!) at Mitsuwa. It came with a calendar, people, with a project a month . . . how could I possible resist? And no, I don't read Japanese, but lots of other bloggers seem to be able to figure out how to make things from Japanese craft books and magazines. I think I can, I think I can!

Tallulah-Palooza Friday

Tallulah Mae loves to go on road trips--and she has asked us to trade in our cars for one of these, a VW Eurovan. See her silhouette in there? Why would she care about the kind of car she rides in, you may ask?

Why, in the Eurovan, there is a bed, where she can do this . . .

Which naturally leads to this . . .

What?

Sing It, Petula Clark: Downtown

B. and I went to downtown L.A. to see an exhibition of the work of Bruce Licher, from Independent Project (way cool letterpress stuff). And we, as always, had to admire the area's rather gritty--and I mean that in a good way--industrial flavor . . .
Check out the image above: it looks as if the moon is balancing on the wire . . .

Sights, Seen

We saw some interesting windows, storefronts, and signs in Los Angeles . . .

We used to go here every Sunday for farmhouse egg tarts and ginger scones and and and . . .

Check out this weird storefront on Melrose . . . twigs? Hairballs?

And a little plumber's wrench man! Cute!

New Friends and Old (L.A. Chapter)--And a Warning: Head-Exploding Cuteness Ahead

We had lunches, brunches, and dinners with old and dear friends; if only the drive up to L.A. were just a LITTLE bit shorter . . . or if only someone would perfect teleportation, perhaps.

And we met a new friend (here comes the head-exploding cuteness--you have been warned).
This is Ike. He is a five-month-old chocolate Boston Terrier. Did your head explode?
Now?

How about now? Good grief!

[Edited to add: I feel that I must emphasize that my own darling girl, Miss Tallulah Mae, makes my head explode daily with her cuteness . . . just ask B., who is constantly being harangued to look at her.]

L.A. Story

B. and I made a trip up to Los Angeles this past weekend to celebrate our anniversary--we were married in L.A. in 1985--and to go to the California International Antiquarian Book Fair. This is the view from our hotel room balcony: it's the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza, an iconic LA hotel in Century City, on the fabulously named Avenue of the Stars. We both had massages, which were quite nice, though perhaps falling more into the "therapeutic" (read: ouch, but in a good way) than "relaxing" category.
This is the view of downtown Los Angeles from our room on the first day we arrived . . .

And here is the same view on the second day.

The travelogue continues tomorrow . . .

Tallulah-Palooza Friday

Bird's-eye view . . .

Love, Actually

In addition to being Valentine's Day--always a favorite day; when I was little my mom always used to bake heart-shaped, pink-frosted cookies--today is my 23rd wedding anniversary (MTA, sweetest B.). This photo sums it all up quite nicely . . . so love to you all!
Oh, and Tallulah Mae wishes you a Happy Valentine's Day, too.

Furry Friends, Again

Presenting Miss Saylor: aka "I-Wiggle-My-Whole-Body-When-I-Wag-My-Tail," aka "Let Me Share With You My Favorite Toy Because I Am So Sweet." She lives with Robin, of Various and Sunday fame, and her husband James.
And this gorgeous girl is Kate "Skwerly" Kitten--remember her from this post? She's about six months old now and is a little cutie-pie. Lucky kitten to wind up with Robin and James . . .
Saylor and Kate share the love . . .

Furry Friends, Feline Edition

This cutie is Triga, a cat who lives on our walk route. She and Tallulah run to see each other, Triga meowing, Tallulah lying down and staring longingly at her.
This is Torpedo, whose gorgeous blue eyes are closed here. This cat is so sweet: he will follow you on your walk.
Here we have Socks, who lives at the Mission Hills Nursery with her sister Reina.

Meow!

Furry Friends, Part I

This week we'll take a look at some darling furry friends and acquaintances. First up: Sir Stanley McStanlerson. Stanley is just the sweetest boy; his hobbies include carrying things--pretty much anything--in his mouth. Below he proudly displays a "stick" (really a small log!).
Here Tallulah and Stanley demonstrate their dog sled technique. The two of them walk along like this, side by side but rarely looking at each other. Too funny!

Tallulah-Palooza Friday

"Whatvthe heck? Why is Tallulah-Palooza Friday being posted on a Thursday?! You're messing with my head . . . " sayeth Tallulah Mae.

(A quick road trip, with Miss Mae on board, will interfere with posting on Friday. Have a good weekend, y'all!)

Loveliness on a Stem

I'm really a pale dusky pink rose kinda gal, but this is a very pretty specimen, no?

What We Saw on Our Walk Today

The magnificence that is this Chevy truck . . .

And a lost and lonely Ugg boot, all by its lonesome. Go figure . . .

Why I Like to Walk the Dog

Because in the evening I get to enjoy scenes of loveliness like this. (And Miss T-Mae LOVES her walks . . . )

Post Number 200--Woo Hoo!

I can't believe it--this is my 200th post. Wow! Wish I had something profound to say in this landmark post, but no. So let's look at a little something I made, shall we?

What's in this little felt case?
Here's a hint . . .

It's my Elph camera--I LOVE this little camera, by the way . . . it was a Christmas present from my sweetest B., so that he doesn't hear this anymore: "Darn it, I forgot the camera again." Now I always have a camera at the ready to capture life's little moments. Yay!
