Today it was exceedingly windy, and as we were driving on the 5 Freeway, many large tumbleweeds were blowing across the road. We've lived in Southern California for 40 years and have NEVER seen tumbleweeds on the freeway. Freaky!

Scenes from the Antique Mall
This I love...
A surly mannequin (modeling an overpriced two-piece outfit).
This I also love...it is a counter display sign.
Hmmm...
Groovy!
Okaayyy...
No words needed.

Calling Mr. Hitchcock
Upon hearing quite a racket outside, we went and looked...and saw all of these crows (plus more not pictured here). Then they moved down about half a block and continued to caw. Then they all flew away. Weird!

SKWERL, Stucco
While it looks upon first glance as if this skwerl is playing the pan pipes......in fact, weirdly, it is trying to nibble on a piece of stucco (I think--this photo is on a roof across the alley from our house). When I saw it from a distance, I thought it had a pine cone.
It did indeed seem to try to nibble, but eventually it dropped it and scampered away.
Kinda odd...

Scenes from the Road
Why?Oh, apparently it's a thing? ("Pickle in a Pouch" is catchier, though...)
Also, why?!?
Again, a catchy brand name...however, I am not too assured about the looks of this particular toilet seat cover dispenser (janky!).
The obligatory Gila Bend gas station dinosaur photo.
And...this.

Whoa
At first I thought, "OMG, some idiot is moving horses in the back of his pickup truck..." Very realistic fake horses, yes?

Did Ya Miss Me?
I'm back! Computer difficulties plus being away for 4 days without my Blogger password = no new posts. All sorted now, though...
Please enjoy these bizarre emus.

New One
New to me, maybe... I haven't posted an ice machine in quite some time! That white "c" seems unusual, but it could just be that the red has worn away...

Um...
I bought two tiny succulents in pots to plant in the birdbath (which is filled with succulents, not water). I put the pots in the birdbath, meaning to plant them when I got a chance. I looked out, and I noticed that one was gone, nowhere to be seen around the yard. We joked that the squirrel carted it off, running off on its two back legs while holding on to the pot with its front ones and yelling "Wheeeee." Then we speculated that a bird carried it off. Lo and behold, there it is, on top of the carport, plant still inside the pot. (It has now been retrieved.)We had quite a rainstorm yesterday, and today I was outside looking around to see how everything fared. And, lo and behold, on top of the house I spotted this: a succulent that had actually been planted in the birdbath (I know it looks odd--it is lying on its side, roots on the left.)
Um....WTF? What bird is doing this, and why? Inquiring minds would very much like to know! We are blaming the crows, but who knows? (Hey, that rhymes!).

Desert Odds 'n' Sods + Pioneertown
Scenes from Sparrows Lodge, our very cute hotel.
Also from the hotel: a very cute idea--water trough--that doesn't work too well in practice (too much water needed to fill, and in this case, the drain would not stay stoppered).

Ooh, for the next road trip?
S'mores at the hotel! Cheers!Quintessential Palm Springs view here...the mountains are right there.
Yum!
Would make a cute little shop!
And then, Pioneertown. Built in 1946 by Roy Rogers, Dale Evans, and others, it was meant to be a filming and vacation location. The lake, golf course, airport, and shopping center did not happen (apparently in part due to the scarcity of water). More than 50 films and TV shows were filmed here.
Pappy and Harriet's is now a restaurant and music venue.
