Sunflower Fun Fall Outing

This was just a mini Fun Fall Outing, but a really fun Fun Fall Outing: a sunflower field where you can cut your own. So many HUGE flowers, and the bee girls were loving it. Fun!

Chalky Fun

 Remember this volunteer sunflower?
Someone has left this sweet note...
And this funny face was in the middle of the road.

Sunny Flowers

Last week I treated myself to an afternoon at the U-pick sunflower field at Suzie's Farm. So fun! The flowers were in various states (attractive--to me, at least--in whatever condition), and there were TONS of bees: honeybees, bumble bees, little native bees. Also lady bugs! I had a wonderful time.

Bumbling

Check out this gorgeous bumblebee feasting on a giant sunflower. It's rather rare to see them nowadays, unfortunately.

Oh, y'all KNOW how I love me some chickens!

Sunny Bottles

How cute is this little arrangement of sunflowers in my vintage dairy/creamer bottle collection? Very! (It was B.'s idea, by the way...he's clever, that one!)

Sunny Sunflowers

Sunflowers, they rock!

P.S. The red ribbon on my bulletin board from the San Diego County Fair is for a second-place pie in 2009, my Grandma's sugar cream pie (yum!). I was totally thrilled, and I blogged about it here.

Working Girls

A tale of two bee sisters.
This gal is working the pollen for all she's worth...she's covered!
At the same time, this bee girl was getting nectar out--her head was totally stuck inside all the tubules. Oh how I love my bees!

Before and After

The top shot is so weird...it looks as if I Photoshopped it, which I did not (I don't know how to use that newfangled technology!). My sunflowers have burst into bloom...more tomorrow!
