England 2020: Day 2 (London)

Obligatory tube station escalator shot...this is Hyde Park Corners station (delightfully uncrowded!).

 Hair goals! (At the V&A...)

Even the bathrooms are cool at the V&A!

The V&A is probably my favorite museum in the world...I could spend days wandering around. This is the historical fashion exhibition.

Gorgeous handmade buttons on a man's waistcoat.

 A cape!

 Elsa Schiaperelli.
And then the Mary Quant show...absolutely fab! She was such a groundbreaking designer and so important to the English fashion industry in the 1960s.

Mary Quant learned to sew using Butterick patterns, and then she designed for Butterick once she was a successful designer...and I have sold these very same patterns in my Etsy shop!

Dennis Severs' House in Spitalfields, East London. An experience...read about it here.

And Blixen, one of the best meals we had on our trip.

J'Adore Dior

Swoon...we were fortunate enough to be here in Dallas to see the Dior exhibition at the Dallas Museum of Art. AMAZING! It covers the couture house of Dior from its founding by Christian Dior through today--there have been six designers since: Yves Saint Laurent, Gianfranco Ferre, John Galliano, Raf Simons, and the current designer, Maria Grazia Chiuri. The design of the show is spectacular, and the clothes? Swoon worthy. (The first outfit above is this classic look that heralded the New Look.)

P.S. Apparently I neglected to post on Friday--oops!

Avant

The real reason we visited the Phoenix Art Museum was to see this exhibition, "Emphatics." These avant-garde fashions, now owned by the Phoenix Art Museum, are all from the collection of James and Karin Legato, who owned a boutique called Emphatics in Pittsburgh, where they developed relationships with many of the designers.

That's Norma Kamali up top...
This is Jean[Paul Gautier, and it TOTALLY looks like me in the 1980s!
 Also Gautier.

It's (Christian) Lacroix, dahling! (AbFab reference!)

 Thierry Mugler.
 Issey Miyake.
This is also Miyake (swimsuit with built-in inflatable life ring).
 Alexander McQueen.
 Also McQueen...

There were also vitrines filled with ephemera (fashion show invites, look books, etc.), as well as giant screens with videos of fashion shows. So fun!
