Happy Mail!

When your sweet sweet friend sends you a sweet sweet package full of sweet sweet things! I love them! (Fun fact: the cardinal is the state [commonwealth, if we're being technical] bird of Kentucky--and a bunch of other states, I think!)

I mean...how cute is this?!?
This is the maker of the adorable tea towel.
Thank you SO much, sweet J-Lou!

Happy SKWERL!!!! Day

Happy International Squirrel Day! I love these little scamps...so fun to watch. I always think about Tallulah Mae, who would literally scream and try to climb any tree to get to them; I had people stop and ask me more than once if my dog was OK. Yes, she was OK--insane about SKWERLS, but OK.

I adore this albino squirrel in Washington, DC. So cool!

Exhale

I really do try to keep "politics" out of this blog--for the 7 or so of you who read it, LOL--but today was just too momentous not to remark upon. Today was important and special for so many reasons: it was historic (Madam Vice-President, hurrah!), sincere, meaningful, and just...freeing. It felt as if we could all finally exhale.

So so much damage has been done, and Joe and Kamala have a steep path ahead of them, but still: we can breathe again. Here's to making "politics" boring again--it will be nice to think that those in our government are just there, working, going about their business and doing their jobs and trying to improve the lot of ALL Americans.

"With liberty and justice for all."

"This land is my land, this land is your land."

"...

We will rebuild, reconcile and recover

and every known nook of our nation and

every corner called our country,

our people diverse and beautiful will emerge,

battered and beautiful

When day comes we step out of the shade,

aflame and unafraid

The new dawn blooms as we free it

For there is always light,

if only we're brave enough to see it

If only we're brave enough to be it."

So, Christmas is put away for another year.

My vintage collections never fail to make me smile, including this varied assortment of deer. I love them! See you next year!

And Again

Another glorious end to the day.

(Still saddened, appalled, and angry--but that gavel at 3:45 a.m. last night did improve my mood.)

A Bad Day

And so the sun sets (a beautiful one, BTW) on one of the worst days in modern U.S. history. I am appalled, saddened, and ANGRY.

Hello, 2021

On New Year's Eve
I am at home to the Future...
I wait to hear her ring the doorbell of the world.
I open the door.
The gorgeous guest from afar sweeps in.
In her hands are her gifts--
The gift of hours and far-seeing monuments,
The gift of mornings and evenings,
The gift of spring and summer,
The gift of autumn and winter.
She must have searched the heavens
For boons so rare.
