Donut, Star

This it what it looks like when the best husband ever drops off a fresh warm donut to you on his way to work.

Despite all of the hip and gourmet donut shops around at the moment, I personally find it hard to beat an old-school donut from Donut Star, which has been in the 'hood for quite a long time. I mean, I like ALL donuts--as my large derriere will testify--but a good old-fashioned donut wins every time.

Hello Again

I was just saying to someone that I have not seen any monarch butterfly caterpillars this year, and lo and behold, look who I found (I also found a dead one, boo!). The milkweed is quite sparse this year, so I worry that there will not be enough to feed this dude/dudette until it becomes a chrysalis.

Take a Hike

Last Friday we went for a hike at the Crestridge Ecological Reserve; this was a hike led by the Nature Conservancy (we are donors). Lovely area, and relatively close to urban San Diego--we'll have to go back! Many wildflowers here, too, just as in Anza-Borrego.

The trail goes right by an active avocado orchard...
