A Perfect Day

A gloriously beautiful day...a perfect day to celebrate my birthday at the beach (Pisces/fish/water/ocean).

 

These funny birds, standing on one leg. And not just standing--they also HOPPED on one leg (and yes, they have two legs!)

And a cute message on my free birthday coffee from Starbucks!

(Pancakes for brekkie, lots of wonderful presents from my sweet B., texts from friends and family, birthday surprises left on the front step, and a very special birthday song sung by my sweet mom this morning. What a perfect day!)

Monday and yesterday were astronomical high tides ("king" tides), where the moon and sun exert their strongest pull on the tides. We went to Coronado, where the tides were definitely splashier than normal, though not terribly "kingly." (Where the water has something to splash against, like a cliff or rocks, it is more dramatic, obviously.) Nice nice nice, though...lovely weather, heavenly ocean smell.

It happens again next month, so maybe we'll go where things are more dramatic!

 

England 2020: Day 7, Part 1 (Eye to Southwold)

 Our wonderful friends spent the day touring us around East Anglia...

 Our first destination: Southwold, on the eastern coast.

This is St. Edmund's. St. Edmund was a 9th-century martyr (tied to a tree, shot with arrows, then beheaded.

 Southwold is a really really lovely little town.

 Beach huts: these are passed down through families, apparently (though you can also rent them). They are for you to change into your "bathing costume," get in out of the sun and wind, and have a snack.

 Southwold Lighthouse, built in 1887 and still a working lighthouse for ships on the North Sea.

 This is Southwold Jack (a replica at Adnam's--this is now a trademark symbol of Adnam's Brewery): the figure is part of a 15th-century mechanical clock made to strike on the hour...the original figure is inside the church by the nave. He is a soldier dressed in a uniform from the time of the War of the Roses.
