Hey, whose pointy deer feet are these?
Oh, excuse me..."dainty canine paws..."

Look, Ma, Solid Precipitation
Aren't these the sweetest little teeny-tiny hail, um...pellets? They kept saying we might get graupel, but I don't think it's cold enough where I live.

Tallulah-Palooza Friday
Hey there, Tallulah Mae...whatcha doin'?
Ah, I see...having a bit of a liedown.
Inside my cello case.
Comfy? Good, I'm so glad!
She actually does this almost every time I play...she comes from somewhere else in the house when she hears the cello and then jumps up into the soft nylon case. Sometimes she steps on the metronome inside one of the pockets and then is quite perplexed when she hears "Tick tick tick tick TOCK tock tock tock." It's pretty darn cute! But then, how could it not be? It's Tallulah Mae!

Truth in Advertising
This image pleases me, somehow: the turquoise sign against the blue sky, the sign's geometric shape, the welter of lines, the lack of any sort of shop name. It's a store, they sell liquor--'nuff said! Wish I could see it at night, because that looks like a neon arrow at the bottom, pointing the way to...LIQUOR!

First of the Season
Oh cheery daffy dills, how I love thee...as did Mr. William Wordsworth:
I wandered lonely as a Cloud
That floats on high o'er Vales and Hills,
When all at once I saw a crowd
A host of dancing Daffodils;
Along the Lake, beneath the trees,
Ten thousand dancing in the breeze.
The waves beside them danced, but they
Outdid the sparkling waves in glee: --
A poet could not but be gay
In such a laughing company:
I gazed -- and gazed -- but little thought
What wealth the show to me had brought:
For oft when on my couch I lie
In vacant or in pensive mood,
They flash upon that inward eye
Which is the bliss of solitude,
And then my heart with pleasure fills,
And dances with the Daffodils.

Tallulah-Palooza Friday
Hey, who's that sharing Friday with Tallulah Mae?
Why, it's the King, of course...today would have been his 75th birthday. I do love me some Elvis.
I find his story to be quite poignant (poor boy makes good, loves his mama, crashes and burns). I love all aspects of Elvisiana: the gorgeous young man with the lovely voice, the kitschy movies (like Viva Las Vegas, from which the image above comes), and the after-death craziness of "tribute artists" (impersonators to you and me), Graceland tours, paintings on black velvet (I have one, oh yes!), and Flying Elvi (warning, this link has music). I love all of it! Happy Birthday, Elvis Aron Presley...from Tallulah Mae to you!

My Pretend Weekend Cabin
Thought y'all would like to check out the weekend getaway lodge all decorated for the holidays. Lovely little place, isn't it? We're so lucky to have this little pied-a-terre overlooking the ocean...
NOT!!! It is lovely, isn't it? It's the Lodge at Torrey Pines...it can be your getaway, too, starting at $300 per night. Or skip the room and just go for breakfast, like we do!

Funny or Creepy?
Um. OK. What?!
I have to ask: who does this scarecrow remind YOU of? Give me your ideas in the comments. BTW, this is the same property where we saw this...

Bird, Glowing
This beautiful bird was initially calling and calling (you can see its open beak in the first pic), so I grabbed the camera and ran outside (yep, I really did run!). Then it sat there, almost basking in the light of the setting sun, which is making its chest feathers glow a lovely pink. Not sure what's going on in the last photo, but I do love the hawk pantaloons! Hawkaloons!
This is perhaps a Cooper's hawk.... Just magnificent.

Happy New Year! Hope your 2010 has gotten off to a nice relaxing start...be sure to eat your Hoppin' John to ensure good luck in the coming year. Delicious AND a bringer of good fortune? Sign me up! (We've been making a vegetarian version of this tasty dish for at least 20 years now...while there are many versions, the black-eyed peas are what make it Hoppin' John. Serve with some greens and some cornbread and you're good to go!)
