Afterglow
This is a female hawk. She and her mate have just, um, mated, right in front of our house! (And wow, the male bird makes QUITE a racket--who knew? Ah, nature.)
I wonder if this is their nest...it's several blocks away, down in a canyon and way up high in a eucalyptus tree. We seem to have lots of hawks in the 'hood, though, so this might be a different amorous pair.

Tallulah-Palooza Friday
Look look! Tallulah Mae in an action shot! Just to prove that she doesn't sleep ALL day (just 22 hours or so...) What is she waiting for, you might ask? Hot dogs? Steak? Tuna filets?
{Action shot! Put on your 3-D glasses...} She's waiting for...a piece of red cabbage--see it there, right in front of her? It doesn't much matter what it is...this dog will eat it, happily. She's a true omnivore!

Tasty Yummy
A yummy breakfast of green tea with ginger and homemade banana bread. Everyone, I know, has favorite family recipes for banana bread, but this one is super easy and has NO added fat--no butter, no margarine, no shortening, no oil. If you take care to not over bake it, it is really moist and delicious.
Banana Bread (from Fannie Farmer)
Preheat oven to 350 degrees
Mix in a bowl
* 3 ripe bananas, well mashed
* 2 eggs, beaten until light
Sift together
* 2 cups flour
* 3/4 cup sugar
* 1 teaspoon salt
* 1 teaspoon baking soda
Add dry ingredients to wet ingredients. Add
* 1/2 cup nuts (I use walnuts, and usually a bit more than 1/2 cup), coarsely chopped
Stir well. Put in a buttered loaf pan, 9 by 5 inches.
Bake for 1 hour at 350 degrees (recipe says 1 hour, in my oven it only needs to be in for about 55 minutes).
Super easy, super good! If you give it a try, let me know...

Doodle Doolander
He KNOWS he's gorgeous! "How YOU doin'?"
Blue Steel (Zoolander reference--see title of this post): "Have you ever wondered if there was more to life, other than being really, really, ridiculously good looking?"
"Doodle doodle do!"
Fluffy McFlufferson: "I'm not fat, I'm big feathered."
I do LOVE LOVE LOVE me some chickens, y'all!

Words Go Bye-Bye
Shhh...don't tell the spammers, but I've turned off the stupid new word verification thingy--annoying AND hard to get right: it takes me two or three tries to successfully post a comment these days, and I know I'm not alone. If I have a spam problem--it does happen--I may have to turn them back on, but for now, words go bye-bye!
Check out the hilarious bumper sticker we spotted this a.m. So funny!

Found Face
What is this? I found it on our walk this a.m. I love the leaf tongue (not original to the head but serendipitous, no?).
It may be hard to believe, but I really don't set these things up, I promise...they are just as I found them (this one I turned around so that the light would be better, but that's it!)

Bee Moving Day
This bee box is sitting atop a water meter, where the bees had swarmed and taken up residence. The homeowner called a bee expert, who came and put the box atop the meter; he must have moved the queen into the box--otherwise, the bees would not have moved house. Hats off to the homeowner--many folks would have called someone to come in and exterminate them, but he's an avid gardener, and he told me he's moving the box to the canyon behind his house.
Not sure what these girls are doing, but they are busy busy busy!

Peachy Beach Day
This Pisces girl LOVES the ocean...as soon as I get out of the car and smell the air...ahhhhhhh.
It was freakishly hot yesterday and the water felt lovely on our feet.
The sand along the beach looks like it has flecks of gold in it.
A hermit crab in a shell...
Some sort of crab (too big for a hermit, I think) out of a shell...
And some crab legs--guess the seagulls don't consider them a delicacy.
A living sand dollar--the familiar white sand dollar we've all picked up is actually this same creature's "test" or exoskeleton (we threw this one back out into the water; same with the hermit crab above).

Tallulah-Palooza Friday
"The Canine," winner of the Best Picture Dogscar, starring Tallulah Mae.
Cue the jazzy score: "Why sir, whatever do you mean? I cannot go away with you (unless you give me some biscuits. Or some fish. Tuna would be nice.)"
{Rollicking piano music}: "...and that's why they call it 'suet.' Get it?" (The little birdie is NOT amused.)
{Plaintive violin}: "I've always depended on the kindness of strangers."
{Sinister organ music}: "I scoff at your offer of dried dog food...bring me sardines, immediately! And coffee, with milk--a latte, I say!"
{Loopy slide whistles}: "WHAT the HECK was in that latte, anyway?"
{Emotionally charged cellos}: "I wonder how a can opener works...a peppy go-getting little gal like me can really go places--like the kitchen!}
*THE END*
