It is Wednesday, and all I've got for you today is a pipecleaner chimp wearing a pipecleaner hat holding a pipecleaner cane, sitting on a spool. That's it, people...please enjoy his slightly demented googly eyes, won't you?

ACK! This didn't publish last night!!!! STUPID Blogger had a glitch and said it wasn't saved, so I saved it and hit publish BUT NO, only saved it in draft form!  It has made me break my previously unbroken string of Monday through Friday blog posts, accomplished even while I was in Japan and China! Sigh.

Are you familiar with PicMonkey yet? It is an absolutely genius photo-editing site that allows you to do all sorts of things (edit, add effects, add themes and digital frames and and and, etc.), but I love it MOST for the ability to make collages of your own photos. Really helpful in terms of Etsy (which gives you 5 photos per listing), but just pretty darn cool, yes?

Oh, and it's SUPER easy to use, too--drag and drop, just the way I like it!

Smell-o-Vision! My new rose bushes are producing some lovely late summer roses (if you'll remember, the gophers ate my previous bushes, so these are all new varieties). Ahhhh....

The Boom Boom Room in the Sky...

Rest in Peace, Miss Dixie Evans (1926-2013). Dixie was known as "the Marilyn Monroe of Burlesque" back in the 1950s, and wow, did she look like Marilyn! (Here is the link to her obituary--check out that photo!)

Dixie ran Exotic World, a museum dedicated to all things burlesque/exotic dancing--photos, programs, pasties!--which used to be out in the middle of nowhere in Helendale, on Old Route 66. We visited about 15 years ago and got a personal tour, all by ourselves, and Dixie was utterly delightful. (That's me up there posing with her--she's much more sassy!)

We returned a year or two later to attend the Miss Exotic World contest--amateur burlesque dancers ranging from the very good to the...not-so-good. The Exotic World museum moved to Las Vegas in 2006 and changed its name to the Burlesque Hall of Fame--and the Miss Exotic World competition is still going strong!

I like to think that Dixie is still dancing away up there in the Boom Boom Room in the Sky!

Delicioso! Homemade pizza (my crust, B.'s toppings): mushroom and leek--check out the yummy caramelization of the leeks. Mmmmmmmm....good!

Weird with a Beard

Truly a weird plant, no? This is Aristolochia gigantea, otherwise known as Dutchman's Pipe. These flowers are HUGE--this is about a foot long. (It's not mine...it was at the nursery.) Mother Nature...go figure!
