Rufous

Little lovely...this is (I think) a rufous hummingbird; the setting sun is making him/her glow.

We mostly have Anna's hummingbirds in our yard, so it is nice to see that this little dude/dudette has moved in as well.

Orange Bells

Our Australian flame tree is going nuts this year...every other year is a banner year for the flowers/pods (and leaf dropping).

The birds love to sort of hide in its shady branches--there is a little hummingbird there.

Glowing

It is hot and humid here (relatively speaking, I realize!)...this is the reward for all of that subtropical moisture.

Ephemeral Beauty

 These cactus flowers are AMAZING! They are huge, for one thing, and this year there are about a dozen of them. This is a terribly neglected property, but these cacti are thriving. They are so ephemeral...tomorrow they will have wilted and started to fade away.

Sittin' in a Tree

This little one sat in our tree and groomed itself for about 15 minutes...so cute!

This dude skittered up the tree when our neighbor's cat came into our yard--she actually catches lizards all the time (but doesn't kill them, thank god), so I think he was wise to skedaddle!
