Glam Church
Doesn't this light fixture look as if it belongs in a bar or restaurant?
It's actually in All Souls' Episcopal Church...
Where I enjoyed a free concert of songs by John Dowland (1563-1626) and Henry Purcell (1659-1695) performed by the Bach Collegium.

Year of the Rat
Happy Lunar New Year! (It's the year of the rat, not the dragon, but I don't have a picture of a rat!)

Salton Sea: The Birds
The whole reason for our trip to the Salton Sea--other than the fact that we like road trips--was to see birds, specifically, sandhill cranes. Alas, I forgot to bring my camera, so these rather crappy cellphone photos are all I have. But it was wonderful!
An egret.
The cranes! Two of them, right by the road.
TONS of geese.
The same cranes!

Salton Sea: The Surroundings
The Salton Sea is surround by geothermal energy plants. It's a bit incongruous to see these gnarly industrial sites...
And this is a Spreckels sugar plant...apparently they are making sugar from sugar beets here.

Salton Sea: Along the Way
We made a trip to the Salton Sea. (If you don't know the strange saga of the Salton Sea, definitely Google it!)
We haven't been in a long time, and this time we went specifically to see birds: it's a winter migratory flyover.
Along the way, we came upon this: the International Banana Museum. So marvelous!
Look at the banana on top of the Banana Man's head! And he appears to light up!
Banana yellow car.
Not sure what's going on here...
And I think they might need a new sign!
Bananas. Bait. Ice. Beer.
And the dancing date shake man!
