It looks as if this bird is being abducted by aliens......which it may have welcomed......because it was really really HOT!
(Reflection in photo one; the bird is doing the only thing birds can do to release heat. Poor baby!)

While it looks upon first glance as if this skwerl is playing the pan pipes......in fact, weirdly, it is trying to nibble on a piece of stucco (I think--this photo is on a roof across the alley from our house). When I saw it from a distance, I thought it had a pine cone.
When your sweet mom turns 85 years old (yay!), you choose some cute photos of her and make these......and then you all hold them up for a group photo at her birthday party. Happy birthday, Vivi Sue! (It was actually yesterday, BTW...) We love you!
Why?Oh, apparently it's a thing? ("Pickle in a Pouch" is catchier, though...)
Wow, how long has this been here? When is the last time you've seen a public phone?Obviously, not a corner where much good is happening...
A story in four parts.
1) A juvenile oriole lands on the fountain.
2) Mom appears with a green insect in her mouth. There are at least 3 hummingbirds who call our backyard theirs. For years we had Anna's hummingbirds (and I think there is one in the yard now), but the Allen's hummingbirds seem to be dominant. Check out the tongue being stuck out above!
I am amazed at how different a bird's body shape looks depending upon how they are standing. These are the same bird! I also love how the beak of this juvenile oriole is just starting to turn dark...
