Arachnophobes, Look Away!

If spiders creep you out, you might want to skip this post! I am fascinated by spiders although I definitely like to keep my distance from them.

Current residents--who are not paying rent--of the pomegranate tree. Mama Spider in the first two photos is zealously guarding her egg sac.

And the dudette in the bottom photo is just kinda funny!

Sorry the photos are a bit blurry/far away; I didn't get too close because, you know, SPIDERS! Garden spiders are fine and in fact are beneficial insects, but they are still SPIDERS!

And then there is this:
Um, hell no! 90 degrees inside the house? No! More heat the rest of this week, alas...

Hot Sunset

The sun setting on a VERY hot day. And even hotter tomorrow and hotter still on Wednesday. Ugh, say I.

Snapshots from a Fun Long Weekend

Fun fun fun!

Classic car show at the Al Bahr Shrine {Shriners' temple); beer (at multiple places--the adorable boxer pup was at Societe; we also had beer at BorderX Brewing); delicious Mexican food in Barrio Logan (Salud, where they serve mulitas, a kind of quesadilla sandwich); ice cream cones as big as our heads (a reminder: it is the law that you eat ice cream on a national holiday, in case you didn't know).

The best part of all? Hanging out with my sweetie for three whole lazy days!

Tallulah-Palooza

 It.
 Is.
 HOT.
There is a handy  solution, however: stretch yourself out, preferably on a soft bed...
...and enjoy the ceiling fan!

Show us how it's done, Tallulah Mae.

Crazy Clouds

I love days when there are this wild assortment of clouds types and shapes. I believe it has something to do with moisture in the air--maybe? Whatever it is, it's super cool! Note the bird in the last photo--a happy accident!

Books Books Books

So, I may have a few too many vintage craft books...maybe not! How can I have too many when they have such fabulous illustrations?

I mean, really...who can resist? We're not even going to discuss the modern sewing books and all of the knitting books. Ahem.

P.S. Please forgive the mess up there...not only was I reorganizing the craft books, but the contractors who are working on our bathroom needed closet access, so many things from the office closet were on the floor. Ack!

Wish I Were a Butterfly Medic

I found this butterfly on the ground, trying desperately to fly. I left it alone, initially, thinking perhaps it had just come out of its chrysalis and its wings were wet.

But no. It had a folded forewing, which meant it couldn't fly. It crawled onto my hand and we had a little conversation. I tried to unfold it, gently, and it held still while I attempted to do so. While I could unfold it, it wouldn't stay unfolded--I think perhaps this deformity was caused by a virus that deforms these beauties in the chrysalis.

I tried to feed him (black dot on wing means a male), but he wasn't interested in the sugar water. I placed him on a flower, and when I came back, he was nowhere to be found. Yay, I thought.

Alas, I found him a few days later, deceased. RIP, little beauty. I'm sorry I couldn't save you...
