Right on the outskirts of Albuquerque is Petroglyphs National Monument.
From the NPS website: Petroglyph National Monument protects one of the largest petroglyph sites in North America, featuring designs and symbols carved onto volcanic rocks by Native Americans and Spanish settlers 400 to 700 years ago. These images are a valuable record of cultural expression and hold profound spiritual significance for contemporary Native Americans and for the descendants of the early Spanish settlers.
There are three separate sites; I chose to do just one--and it was a rather steep climb up a rock formation. The petroglyphs--and there are many--are quite wonderful.
Look how high up I am! This is only halfway up (that's a car at upper left, for scale).
Marvelous!
(And I got a stamp for our National Parks passport, yay!)
