Random Heart, Condensation Edition
There is a phone wire just above this spot--when it is damp, water drips here. This is the first time I've seen a heart!

Take a Hike (I Did)
On Saturday, I went for a hike in Mission Trails Regional Park. So nice to have a park relatively close by with multiple hiking trails.
Jimsonweed--the fave of idiots trying to get high by smoking it; it's actually quite poisonous (and pretty!).
A gorgeous California Live Oak--there was a beehive somewhere in the trunk--lots of loud buzzing.
This is the Old Mission Dam, completed in 1815 at the behest of Father (now Saint) Junipero Serra...it was built with Indian labor. It was one of the first irrigation projects constructed on the west coast of the U.S.
A fun day! Always so nice to get out in nature--rejuvenating, and so important (now more than ever, in this hideous nightmare of an election season!).

Ewwwww
We love pumpkins around here, and we always try to pick out unusual ones. This warty fellow seemed cool. He's been with us for about 4 days.
I came home on Monday and I thought, "Wow, some dog has come up here and peed on this pumpkin!" Then I realized, um, no, the pumpkin is leaking.
I left it, in part to show B. and in part because I thought that disposal of a rotting gourd might be a two-person job (and it was, BTW).
I looked out to see if the mailman had left anything on the porch and saw that the pumpkin had fallen and could not get up (it also had quite a serious leakage problem).
So, EWWWW! It's now in many pieces in the garbage, having turned black and smelling like fermenting vegetal matter. The flies are enjoying the hell out of it...

Sunny Flowers
Last week I treated myself to an afternoon at the U-pick sunflower field at Suzie's Farm. So fun! The flowers were in various states (attractive--to me, at least--in whatever condition), and there were TONS of bees: honeybees, bumble bees, little native bees. Also lady bugs! I had a wonderful time.
