Ka. Boom.
Yesterday was National Puppy Day--isn't EVERY day National Puppy Day?!--and so, a day late, I present to you baby Tallulah Mae. Head, exploded.

Saturday Stroll
On Saturday we went for a walk at the Anstine-Audubon Society Nature Preserve. We had hoped to see lots of birds, but no luck (we heard quite a few). It was, however, nice and green and the wildflowers were blooming. This is the only bird we really saw up close: a white-crowned sparrow, rooting around under a bird feeder.
The California poppies are in bloom.
Check out the size of this beetle! (I did NOT step on it--shoe is for size comparison.) It was a very busy bug.
Wild cucumber! (Despite its name, it is not really edible--apparently it has a very bitter taste.)
A cattail that has burst open, creating windborne seeds/fibers that are quintessential foziewisps!
Toyon berries: birds generally feast on these, but there were none to be seen.

Stately
My state glass collection is now all free of dust, a project that was WAY overdue!
Most of these were made by the Gay Fad Studios, which opened in Lancaster, Ohio, in 1945. A woman named Fran Taylor was the founder of the business; she had previously had a cottage industry for seven years, working from home, hand decorating home
goods and glassware. Taylor and her
staff applied designs to "blank" glassware from Anchor Hocking, Hazel Atlas, and Federal Glass, among other companies. The business closed in 1962.

Welcome Back
The borage, which went crazy last season, self-seeded and is back, bigger and better than ever (really, the leaves are HUGE). It's just started to bloom--bring on the bees!

The Birds and the Bees, Demonstrated by the Birds (Oh, My!)
I was watching this bird through my camera--it is obviously a raptor of some sort that I can't quite identify; this tree is the next street over...When all of a sudden someone else flew in...
This was all very quick (and quiet).
She then proceeded to sit in the tree by herself for another 2 (!) hours.
Nature!
