Tallulah-Palooza Friday

Let the right one in (foreign language vampire film reference!).

(Please and thank you!).

Happy National Mutt Day! Mutts--they are the BEST! Right, Tallulah Mae (Miss boxer-pit bull-corgi-who knows what else mix).

I Am Curious (Yellow)

Choice is great and all, but I'm not at all sure we really need QUITE so many permutations of each color. Some of them are almost identical (check out the middle strip and the one behind it...).

We are in the throes of a complete bathroom renovation and have to choose "yellow" for the walls.

I am reminded of one of my favorite scenes in one of my very favorite movies, Mr. Blandings Builds His Dream House (if by chance you haven't seen the movie, you MUST: Myrna Loy, Cary Grant, general fabulousness): here, Myrna Loy instructs the painters on the colors she wants. I hear ya, Myrna!

Hankie Nostalgia

Always happy to find a pile o' vintage hankies at a sale...I love them for their delicate embroidery and fancy edges.

And this lot? It smells sweet and powdery, just like my Grandma York, who always had a hankie in her pocketbook. Ahhh...poignant memories.

Plum Good

When nature hands you some overripe plums, what do you do? If you're me, you make some delicious plum butter! Easy-peasy and oh-so-good! (If I do say so myself!).

A Day at the Park

The koi are in a frenzy because they were being fed...pretty little piggies!

Guess where I was...Japan! No, alas, not really...

I was with a friend last week at the Japanese Friendship Garden in Balboa Park. Parts of the garden really do make one feel as if you're in a garden somewhere in Tokyo or Kyoto. Lovely!  My friend and I went to see the garden and an exhibition at the San Diego Museum of Art entitled "Coney Island: Visions of an American Dreamland." A really fun and interesting exhibition that includes paintings, prints, photos, and objects--including this fellow, who apparently used to be atop the fantastically named Spook-a-Rama ride.

Tallulah-Palooza Friday

Hours (or at least minutes) of fun with purloined undergarments, in this case, a sports bra. She doesn't chew them, just shakes them, throws them in the air, and rolls on them. (I have really cute video of her doing all of these things but can't seem to load it into Blogger.)

She is a twelve-year-old puppy, always and forever. My sweet and silly girl...

SKWERL!!!!

He/she was eating the seeds out of a pod (see behind it?). A lovely tail, yes?

P.S.: Tallulah Mae was not with me, so everyone was spared the screeching and squealing that goes along with squirrl sightings.

A New Generation of Daneus Plexippus

Another Monarch caterpillar, yay! I am ridiculously excited!

Apparently, if you grow it--"it" being milkweed--they WILL come. This one is HUGE, most likely about to go into its chrysalis. I like to think this is a descendant of my special needs butterfly...

San Fran: The Classics

We were in San Francisco a few weeks ago--B. won a prestigious award from the American Library Association, yay!--and this most picturesque of cities looked fabulous. Here are some classic places in San Francisco.
 Golden Gate bridge.
Transamerica Pyramid (which actually no longer has the office of Transamerica in it!), designed by William Pereira.

 The Fairmont Hotel.
 Coit Tower
 Grace Cathedral on Nob Hill
The Tonga Room! (It's inside the Fairmont.)
Spires of Sts. Peter and Paul Church (North Beach)
 Fisherman's Wharf
 Chinatown
 Of course.
 Lombard Street
And Alcatraz.

More San Francisco pix to come...
