We drove to Southeastern Arizona to Whitewater Draw Wildlife area to see the migratory sandhill cranes. And it was absolutely magical. They fly out at daybreak to feeding areas, thousands and thousands of them making a glorious trilling sound--they make this sound when they fly and when they are on the ground, and you can hear them long before you can see them. Beautiful and moving...

Anyone who knows me knows that I am not an early riser. I wish I were, actually, but my body clock is more night owl.
