Tallulah-Palooza Friday

Oh, this girl.

I turned on the light in the bedroom and found her like this. I have to think she was caught in the middle of getting up...or maybe she was just sitting in the middle of the bed thinking deep Tallulah Mae thoughts. Either way: adorable!

So, were two planes racing, or...?

I Heart Mother Nature

I never cease to be amazed by and excited about amaryllis bulbs. This one sat there, doing nothing, for a month, and I thought I'd overwatered it and caused it to rot. But no: above, December 19--one stalk and bud.
January 6th: two stalks, three flower buds.
 January 11.
You can see that the second stalk is almost as tall as the first one.
These flowers are so baroque and over the top.
January 25: Stalk number one is finished (that's it on the right) and number two is in full glorious bloom.

So much fun from a $5.99 kit from Ace Hardware!

And after this one finishes (in a day or two), I have an unopened kit from Trader Joe's--white flowers this time.

Le Rouge et le Noir

How cool are these vehicles? They were parked right across the street from each other...LOVE the VW!

It's a Sign

When you venture into neighborhoods other than your own, you see things: love the letters in the shape of VW bug up top; love the spareness of the second building and its sign (and "Nutter," tee hee); the star is cool atop the brake shop; and the roadside memorial is sad but interesting--spring, fall, Christmas, Valentines' Day, all represented.

Tallulah-Palooza Friday

Tallulah Mae is QUITE ready to leave the vet's office now, please and thank you! She's trying to get the door to open via doggy telekinesis. No such luck...

Because...

. . . you know, just because I can't resist! This was a few days ago...

Joy, Indeed

Not the nicest photo, but this illustrates reason #1,027 why I love my special thrift store: Joy eau de toilette, in a sealed box...for $1.00! Whaaaaaat? Yes, please!

Sidewalk Mickey

I love walking by one house in my neighborhood where the kids frequently decorate the sidewalk. Sometimes it's hopscotch...or the solar system...or, today, Mickey Mouse.

Magic

Check this beauty out: a mushroom popover extraordinaire (made by B.)! How amazing is that? It is rather like a Yorkshire pudding on steroids, or a savory clafouti. Wow!

Here's the link to the recipe in case you want to give it a try.

I Heart Cake

This is an easy-to-make cardamom-coffee pound cake, made lighter by using olive oil and plain yogurt (or nonfat sour cream) rather than butter (there is no butter in it). Mine is not very coffee-ish because it called for coffee extract, which I didn't have, but it's delish nonetheless!

Art Plus Nature

On Sunday we went to see a fantastic art exhibition, "Lost in the Memory Palace," a small retrospective of the work of Janet Cardiff and George Bures Miller. I adore her/their work and am so glad to have been able to see their work here at the Museum of Contemporary Art.

She does "walks," art pieces in which you put on headphones and, well, walk, while listening. I did Missing Voices: Case Study B in London, a walk that goes through part of the East End, through streets where Jack the Ripper walked/killed. You hear whispers and footsteps...amazing. If you ever have the chance to see their work or go on one of the walks, you MUST do it!

Bonus: the fantastic view from the back of the museum.

Imagine My Surprise...

...when I came upon this as I was walking Miss Mae.

I was glad to see that it was a piece of paper, not the real thing (though I do think tarantulas are mighty cool). Why it was on the ground in mid-January is not clear to me...

Pot o' Goodness

Look at this bowl (and pot) full o' goodness: kale, squash, farro, tomatoes. SO delish and so pretty, perfect for a winter day.Thank you, Chef B.!

Holy Cube

We saw this nun, in full habit, wandering around Target (I guess no one can resist that popcorn). And then, lo and behold, we see her get into her silver Nissan Cube (that's my car, only mine is red), complete with plastic Virgin Mary on the dash. Love it!

Random Hearts, 2014 Edition

The bottom one, I'm chagrined to admit, is a bit of toothpaste on my bathroom tile--quickly cleaned up, I must add--but not before it got photographed!

Bathroom Boys

Imagine my surprise when I went to the bathroom at this fun restaurant--The Trails--and found these awaiting me. Check out Barry Manilow up there, all backlit and glowy.

My man Elvis was right there on the wall opposite the toilet!

BTW, Wednesday is his birthday...TCB, baby!

Tallulah-Palooza Friday

No caption needed, am I right?
