Grasshopper-Zilla

You know that a grasshopper is HUGE when it flies into a window and wakes you up. This dude was LARGE! I tried to put my hand next to it for scale but it flew away (as one does when one sees a giant hand coming near one!).

I Can See You

 Nice try, buddy...

Even though this is its butt and back legs, it is hilarious because it looks like two skinny legs bent at the knee!

Green and Orange

Another grasshopper, this one hanging out on my marigolds. Grasshoppers really are fascinating--look how long the antennae are on this one.

Nope

So cool, so NOOOOOO. I flicked it off and I swear it gave me a dirty look.

Greenie

How pretty is this green dude/dudette? That green! And check out the striped eyeball!
Hangin' out...

(I know they are destructive, but I still find them fascinating.)

Naughty

 Remember my lovely grasshopper friend?

Look what he/she and another little tiny green one (child?) have done to my mint plant. Um...and they must have been super hungry since they did this in about 24 hours!
It is hiding its head in shame amongst the chives...or perhaps just hiding so that I don't kill it! (Which I haven't...)

Beauty's Where You Find It

Look at this grasshopper...just beautiful! The intricacies of its body parts, the different markings--so amazing...

Hoppy

If you aren't interested in looking at close-up photos of a grasshopper, now is your chance to look away...(Actually, I'm not sure this is a grasshopper--aren't they green?)

This guy was so big he was casting a shadow in my family room--up above is the view from inside.

 Outside!

Closer...fascinating, all of the textures on one insect.

Hello!

His eye is amazing--their eyes are made up of lots of smaller eyes!

Peek-a-Boo

When I went to cut this lovely rose, look who was chilling out inside it. I didn't have the heart to dislodge him/her. so I let it be...you can see in photo three where the rose has been snacked upon. Grasshoppers are rather amazing--they are so sculptural!
