I love this dahlia...the peachy-pink coloration is very subtle. It reminds me of Cafe au Lait, a very popular variety that frequently sells out (and is more expensive, often, because of its popularity/trendiness). This is not Cafe au Lait...

They are planted, now we wait. I'm a bit late this year--the Nebraska crane trip delayed planting by a bit, but they should do just fine (fingers crossed).

I'm not sure what exactly this green fig beetle was doing on my dahlia, but I moved it along after I took this photo. (I love them--so beautiful and so weirdly clumsy...their grubs, however, are another [gross] matter altogether.)

The tubers are sprouting, yay! (The flowers above are on plants I got from the nursery to tide me over until my tubers came to life.)

Remember these lovelies from this summer? 

These are what I dug up (to store over the winter)...just one tuber, planted in the spring, has turned into these clumps of new tubers. Not all of them are viable, but very cool!

The clump above is amazing...

I also discovered some squirrelly items buried in the dahlia bed. I put these here on a stack of bricks that the skwerls use as stairs, and the next day they were all gone, buried somewhere else in the yard, I assume.

The Last (Probably)

 

I cut the first dahlias in the first week of July and now have cut what are probably the last blooms today. Three months of continuous flowers, pretty fab!
