El Indio

Love these small neon signs that I have never noticed before--even though I have driven by hundreds of times--on El Indio, a classic Mexican restaurant that has been in this spot since 1940.

Starry Arrow-y

I do love me an arrow sign, so an arrow sign with a star on top? Yes, please!

Pointed

I love the juxtaposition here of a sort of colonial-shaped sign coupled with the script "Pancake Restaurant" signs, and then with that big ol' atomic-era arrow. A real grab bag! (As noted many times before, I love a good arrow sign!) Aunt Emma's is a classic!

Diners

Funny: these are all sitting at tables at Bread and Cie, our fave cafe and bakery, to stop anyone from sitting inside. I do love Mr. Bill slumped down in his seat...

England 2020: Days 8 and 9 (Eye to London): The End.

We went back to London for two days of shopping and eating, basically, to round out our fabulous trip.
Hey, just as tacky as the real one!
Upscale Indian food in a pretty setting...

 Dessert came in this box!
Super cool modern takes on tartan...
Portobello Road...unfortunately, the antiques market is only at the weekend.

 Fun at Fortnum and Mason.

Henry the Hoover at the Caledonian Club.

So many pretty windows decorated like this...

Bird's-eye view at Wyndham's, where we saw Tom Stoppard's latest play, Leopoldstadt. (This is shot straight on, by the way...eye level with the ceiling almost!). And of course we had ice cream at the interval...as one does.

 Well, I just had to...

 They've got gnomes!

That's it, the end of the England 2020 travelogue (unless B. has some killer shots that I need to share). It was marvelous and I will store the memories away.

Authentic

We had lunch in DC at the Tune Inn...it has been a bar and grill here, on Capitol Hill, for more than 60 years (there was a kitchen fire so it has been rebuilt); apparently before that, it housed a tailor's shop with a speakeasy upstairs.

It definitely was authentic! (And I love the signage...)

Re-Used

 Cute.
Funny (and a bit blurry, sorry...).

Route 66 Road Trip Day 7: We're Finally There (on Route 66)

Santa Fe to Albuquerque.
 Crazy sculpture in Santa Fe.

Super cool printing museum and workshop.

New Mexican food since 1952...B. had green chile pozole which he loved (I had corn tamales, yummy).
Kasha-Katuwe Tent Rocks National Monument...one of the coolest places I've ever seen. I took tons of photos--these are but a small sample.

 Weird tree!

Slot canyons...
 Yes, we hiked through here!

 Just...wow.

Fruit trees in bloom in Albuquerque, just gorgeous.

Los Poblanos Organic Farm and Inn (where we stayed)--farm cat.
Spectacular turkeys, walking around just outside the restaurant.

The restaurant at the inn, wonderful farm-to-table cuisine.
