Be Still, My Heart

Totally unexpectedly, there they were, in Albuquerque. 


(While it looks as if they are captive/behind wire, they were actually standing on a small pile of dirt, which happened to be behind a wire fence meant to contain chickens, I think...)


These pix were shot from across a field, at dusk, BTW...not too bad, fancy camera (which I totally do not know how to properly use yet).

Glory

 

We drove to Southeastern Arizona to Whitewater Draw Wildlife area to see the migratory sandhill cranes. And it was absolutely magical. They fly out at daybreak to feeding areas, thousands and thousands of them making a glorious trilling sound--they make this sound when they fly and when they are on the ground, and you can hear them long before you can see them. Beautiful and moving...
