Another Gift

This time a mockingbird feather... all of the birds have been molting but are just about finished. I don't really see mockingbirds in the yard, so this is a special one.

Almost Gone...

The oriole season is coming to a close...this is one of the late fledglings. So happy that we get to enjoy their shenanigans for about 5 months.

Kids

There are two late-season oriole fledglings in the yard...usually the orioles have mostly migrated by the end of August; there are older juveniles, too, but not birds being fed by mom/dad. Two of them were in the very top of my neighbor's 50-foot-high paper bark tree. Mom appeared with a spider...and then the bird who had been fed--the other was up above--proceeded to harangue its parent, asking for more (as baby birds do!). The other baby flew down to the scene of the action, but alas, no insects for it.

Blues

So fun to see bluebirds again in the fountain. This is clearly a young bird as its gape is still yellow at the edges. Plenty of gorgeous blue feathers!

A Gift

One of my mourning dove friends left me a present...

Was it this lovely?

Humming Along

This little Allen's hummingbird was enjoying that succulent flower. I love how you can see the pollen on its beak...

Toupee Warbler

Just kidding...this is actually a Wilson's warbler, migrating through town. Love its little black cap/wig!

Here it shares the fountain with an orange-crowned warbler, a species that seems to be around most of the year here. Love them!
