Tonight we saw Jordi Savall perform--with Hesperion XXI--for the fourth (or fifth?) time, and he never disappoints. He is 83 years old and can still astonish... please go and listen to some of his music.

Heavenly
Last night we went to hear Jordi Savall and Le Concert des Nations performing pieces from Tous les matins du monde (the gateway drug for all things Jordi Savall). Breathtakingly beautiful and exquisite (Maestro Savall has a face that could have easily have been in a Hans Holbein painting.)

Blue Skies
Blue skies smilin' at me
Nothin' but blue skies do I see
Bluebirds singin' a song
Nothin' but blue skies from now on
Nothin' but blue skies do I see
Bluebirds singin' a song
Nothin' but blue skies from now on
I never saw the sun shinin' so bright
Never saw things goin' so right
Noticing the days hurrying by
When you're in love, my how they fly by
Never saw things goin' so right
Noticing the days hurrying by
When you're in love, my how they fly by
Blue days, all of them gone
Nothin' but blue skies from now on
Nothin' but blue skies from now on
Blue skies smilin' at me
Nothin' but blue skies do I see
Blue days all of them gone
Nothin' but blue skies from now on
Nothin' but blue skies do I see
Blue days all of them gone
Nothin' but blue skies from now on

Pandemica
In these strange times, one finds fun where one can...we found it by going to the South Bay Drive-In (since 1958) to see a filmed concert by Metallica. Pandemica!
We came, we saw, we (B.) got the t-shirt.
It was a new (and fun) experience!
I am not a heavy metal fan, really, but I do really like Metallica (I mean, who doesn't?!).

Glam Church
Doesn't this light fixture look as if it belongs in a bar or restaurant?
It's actually in All Souls' Episcopal Church...
Where I enjoyed a free concert of songs by John Dowland (1563-1626) and Henry Purcell (1659-1695) performed by the Bach Collegium.

Pay the (Bag)Piper
This is what it looks like when you go to a concert by an avant-garde bagpiper...it was great! (His name is Matt Welsh.)

Pumpkin Palooza
On Saturday Robin from Various and Sunday and I made a little trip down to Imperial Beach to Pumpkin Palooza, held at the very cool Suzie's Farm. Suzie's Farm is an organic farm that supplies vegetables to many of the city's restaurants.
There was music, food (pumpkin chili from the God Save the Cuisine food truck, yum!), and fun: pumpkins and chickens enjoying pumpkins! Y'all know I loves me a chicken...
A good time was had by all--including the chickens.

Artifacts from an Enjoyable Afternoon
Sheet music (Vivaldi's cello sonatas) from cello lesson? Check.
Vogue patterns on sale at JoAnn's for $3.99 (instead of $32.99): Accounted for.
A ginormous Starbucks nonfat Frappucino with whipped cream, "free" with my gold card? Oh yeah, baby! A good afternoon indeed (it doesn't take to much to please me!).

Happy May Day
Did you dance around the Maypole? I hope you at least stopped and smelled the roses (I did!)
(JuJu gets extra credit for her Mac Davis "Stop and Smell the Roses" reference in her comment of a few days ago! Love it!)
The rose above is in memoriam for János Starker, one of the greatest cellists of our time. I dare you to listen to the YouTube video here and not be moved (to tears, in my case).
