Fun Fall Outing: Oak Glen: Birds and Things
A hummingbird, in the hummingbird garden at Montane Botanical Garden.
Scrub jay!
A chestnut, I think...
Acorn woodpecker.
Haunted tree.
Acorn woodpecker with acorn stash.
Another scrub jay (so gorgeous!).
A fallen bird's nest.A black walnut--I ate the nut!--that fell from the tree right at my feet.

Woody!
This lovely is a Nuttall's woodpecker! We saw (and heard!) him a few weeks ago up on the telephone pole behind our house, but he was extremely busy all along the fence yesterday. So pretty--the red head and the amazing feathers on his back (this is the male; the female doesn't have the red head).
