Blooming Into the New Year

 

Summer Surprise

 I put this amaryllis outside after it bloomed earlier this year so that it could gather energy into its leaves; the leaves then die back and you put the bulb into darkness so that it will bloom again in the winter.

This one had a mind of its own--just gorgeous!

Hyacinth Blue

 Just so lovely, yes? I wish you could all smell this...heavenly!

Current state of the windowsill: hyacinth and amaryllis on the go...

It's On

...the battle of the amarylli, that is!

On the left, a normal amaryllis bulb, in soil; it has been hibernating out in the potting shed for a year. It needs water.

On the right, a weird Trader Joe's amaryllis bulb that is encased in wax--no water, no soil, no nothin'. And it's about to bloom!

While it's cool and all, I do feel as if it has some unfair advantage, and I continue to root for the other one.

The first paperwhites have blossomed, yay! They look a bit wistful/moody here...
