Gee, Geodes!

On our road trip, we visited my darling lifelong friend and her husband at their cabin in Brown County, Indiana. Their property has a creek on it, which is FULL of geodes! Here are four of them...

They are just so very cool...

Rocky

Just some pretty beach pebbles...such an amazing variety.
I am always amazed at how the waves make them perfectly round.

Wonder what this green stone is?
 Textures!
And this one, which looks as if someone drew a white X on it (it's in the stone itself).

Petroglyph National Monument

Right on the outskirts of Albuquerque is Petroglyphs National Monument. These symbols were carved into the basalt rocks from 400 to 700 years ago, by both the Native American people and the Spanish.

There are three separate sites; I chose to visit just one, Boca Negra Canyon. It was a bit of a vertical scramble (on a trail, with some railings) up quite a large rock formation.

Look how high up I am! This is only halfway up (that's a car at upper left, for scale).

Marvelous!

(And I got a stamp for our National Parks passport, yay!)

Petroglyph National Monument

Right on the outskirts of Albuquerque is Petroglyphs National Monument.

From the NPS website: Petroglyph National Monument protects one of the largest petroglyph sites in North America, featuring designs and symbols carved onto volcanic rocks by Native Americans and Spanish settlers 400 to 700 years ago. These images are a valuable record of cultural expression and hold profound spiritual significance for contemporary Native Americans and for the descendants of the early Spanish settlers.

There are three separate sites; I chose to do just one--and it was a rather steep climb up a rock formation. The petroglyphs--and there are many--are quite wonderful.
