Dead Pan

Before and after: the annual baking of Pan de Muertos, or bread of the dead (for Dia de los Muertos on Sunday). This bread is quite delicious, and every time I make it I tell myself to bake it more often than once a year. Maybe this year I'll remember!

St. Patrick's Day Yum

I'm not into St. Patrick's Day (no wearing of the green, no shamrocks), but I am into Irish soda bread. I made this today, and it is pretty darn good!

Bread, comma, Day of the Dead

This pan de los muertos (bread of the dead), is quite delicious...I think I'll have to make it on days other than November 1. It is pan muy delicioso!

Toast: It's a Good Thing

What's better than freshly baked homemade bread? Why, the toast you make with it the next day! I baked a peasant boule I'd never made before. It didn't really rise as much as I'd have liked, but I also didn't knead it quite long enough. The recipe said it would be sticky...and it was, too sticky to knead very effectively. Still, absolutely delicious (if I do say so myself!), with a nice holey crumb and a thin but chewy crust. I LOVE bread of all sorts, don't you?
