Bedraggled But Beautiful
This lovely monarch has definitely been through some things: it is missing part of a hind wing and its wing scales are scratched and worn. It--and it is a male ("dots" on hind wings identify it as such)--is still very beautiful. And it has found the "Monarch Magic" ageratum plant at the nursery!

Fun with Buttons
These look like candy!Love the illustrations...
"Pearls" (made from shells).
I spent the past week or so sorting and organizing buttons from my HUGE stash--I "deaccessioned" a LOT. (Where did they all come from? Ha!)

Splash Pad
This house finch REALLY enjoyed his bath!
Also, multiple this amount of splashing times many, many birds per day and you have a fountain that needs filling every day...

Happy World Bee Day
I love me some bees! Alas, we don't see very many varieties of bees anymore, mostly European honeybees--I miss the bumblebees.

Welcome
The darling bird on the left is a Swinhoe's white-eye. These birds seem to be rather newly established in Southern California (they are native to Southeast Asia). Adorable! Cute little female lesser goldfinch on the right...

Perfect
This sign in Lincoln, Nebraska, is a marvel: its position on the building, the fact that it is a No. 2 pencil, and the red neon outline--which still lights up--all combine to make it just fab.

Too Small
This dove has decided that the birdhouses are perhaps too small...It is perhaps also offended by the giant cobweb situation between the houses (as am I! They come back the day after you remove them...)

Just Peachy
These lovely peachy roses are from a tiny rosebush that has never thrived because it does not really get enough sun. And lo and behold, this year it has bloomed. (And they smell heavenly...) Go, little rosebush, go!

Carry a Large Stick (Because You Are Very Large)
Technically a pool cue...this cool handmade guy was outside a--you guessed it--billiards parlor, somewhere in Nebraska.
