All that remains of Mr. Lucky's nightclub in Glendale, Arizona, is this (wonderfully demented) sign. The upstairs was the country/western bar (replete with mechanical bull), while downstairs was a sort of rock/new wave area.
Apparently it opened in 1966 and was planned as a casino, but when that was not allowed, the name stuck and the bar/nightclub was born.
I went there occasionally in the early 1980s (as did my big brother). It apparently became a Latino-themed club in the early 2000s then closed altogether in 2004. It was then a discount furniture store (!), and now it is boarded up.
The (wonderfully demented sign) lives on!
