Feather Crowns

Do you know about feather crowns? They are found in feather pillows, often after someone (who has lain on the pillow) has died. In Appalachian folklore, they are thought to be a sign that the person has gone to heaven: they have earned a feather crown.
I found this feather crown at an estate sale...I knew about them, and I felt like I needed to rescue this.
This is the box it came in.

The Museum of Appalachia in Clinton, Tennessee, has a small collection of these, and I hope to donate it to them.

(By the way, Bobbie Ann Mason, the amazing Kentucky author, wrote a book titled Feather Crowns--I highly recommend it!)
