Every Fall we try to go on a little road trip/excursion/hike/picnic: it's the Fun Fall Outing (or FFO!), as we have dubbed it. This past weekend we drove out east to Julian, a sweet little town in the mountains. This time of year it's a bit overrun with other folks on their own FFOs, but the trip there is as important as the destination, don't you agree?

Lovin' the dahlias...I only seem to have one plant now, even though I know I planted multiple tubers several years ago. I blame the gophers...
First up, just for the fabulous Miss JuJu: Jujubes! I've never seen these before (only the candy!)--apparently these are sometimes known as Chinese dates. (They're being displayed perfectly by Miss Robin of Various and Sunday.)

A lobster mushroom collected in the wild. Fun fungus fact: technically not a mushroom at all, but rather a fungus that grows on mushrooms.
Basket full of deliciously aromatic mixed 'shrooms (one of these came home with me and was turned into a fantastically tasty pasta...yum!).
"Take your stinking paws off me, you damned dirty ape!" {said in best half-naked Charlton Heston voice}. Dr. Zaius, I presume?
