Naturally Wonderful Nature

Not to be too corny, but isn't Nature absolutely amazing? Look at this beautiful flower... I'm also continually in awe of the climate where I live: this photo was taken just down the street from me, on November 10.... While I'll always miss the leaves turning red and orange and gold, as well as the crackling of them beneath my feet, this is a fine consolation prize, no?

Hair, Gone

Look what I did! (Yes, I AM excited about it, can you tell?) I cut off almost a foot of hair to donate to Locks of Love (I think most people know about Locks of Love, but for those of you who don't, it's a nonprofit organization that takes donated human hair and makes wigs to give to children who have lost their hair.) So no more buns, no more braids, no more ponytails--at least for a while. From this... ...to this (sorry for the blurry photo, but you get the idea). And no, the haircut didn't make my head grow larger, which is how it looks in this photo! Fun with photography!). I feel ten pounds lighter, I must say (and THAT'S always a good feeling).

Glitter and Glue, or Craft Room, Where Art Thou?

Hey!!! Who made this giant mess in my family room?! Who left glitter and glue and paper and buttons all over the place?!!! Oh, right...that was me. I'm madly crafting in preparation for a community craft show on Saturday. Wish me luck!

Kitchen Poetry: Day Seven (and Finis)

My sweet B. has been traveling. He just returned from Charleston, South Carolina, and he brought me several presents from the Charleston farmer's market: two jars of pickles (one of my faves, watermelon rind pickles, and some preserved figs that look fantastic). And this: a bag o'grits. Now, I happen to adore grits...I'm from Kentucky, after all! Look how lovely and yellow--corn colored, because the corn is coarsely ground--these are... And here they are about to be devoured. Delicious Sunday brunch: a foamy latte, scrambled eggs, soy sausage (or fauxsage, as we like to call them), and creamy, delicious grits. {That's apple juice, not beer, by the way!} It's been a very blustery day, too, so not too long after this was consumed, we had a delicious nap, snuggled under the covers as the wind blew and blew. The simple things, indeed...

Kitchen Poetry: Day Six

I love the way the sun backlights this curtain (I had to reshoot it, though, so that the rather grimy top part of the window, the part with no curtain on it, didn't show. Sigh.).

It's been really fun to read other blogs that are participating in the Kitchen Poetry blogalong...and thanks to those who have left comments--I really do appreciate it!
